ANDOVER Town’s FA Vase journey ground to a halt in a feisty 2-1 second round defeat at Croydon.

Ex-Winchester City midfielder Javi Santafe Vivo drilled home following a short corner to give Andover an early second-half lead before it all kicked off in the closing stages.

Adam Grange’s penetrating run for Town ended with him being brought down in the box by Croydon captain Rob Curtis.

The referee pointed to the spot and showed Curtis a straight red, but it took the official almost four minutes to restore order in the aftermath of the incident which sparked an altercation involving both teams.

Grange stepped up to take the penalty but Croydon's Frances Ameyaw guessed the right way and saved.

The 'keeper immediately cleared upfield and, with Andover getting their defensive wires crossed, Laurie Chin swept home the equaliser.

Extra-time beckoned, but Chin had other ideas, breaking from inside his own half and crossing for Jeff Duah-Kessie to plunder the winner for the ten-man hosts.

*ALRESFORD Town wiped out a two-goal deficit at Corinthian only to exit the competition 3-2.

Skipper Chris Mason halved the deficit from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 at half-time and hopes were high for the Magpies when Aaron Blaxall brought them back on terms.

But Alresford, who again had Sutton United former Eastleigh goalkeeper Wayne Shaw between the sticks, succumbed to 73rd-minute Luke Tanner winner.

*IT was the end of the Vase road too for Newport IoW, beaten 1-0 away at Sholing's nemesis Buckland Athletic.

The deciding goal arrived three minutes into the second half when Richard Groves’ screamer clattered the crossbar. As Port goalkeeper Gary Streeter turned to see where the ball had gone, it struck him in the face and rebounded into the net.

It was tough luck on Streeter whose outstanding performance earned him Port's man-of-the-match award.

*SALISBURY’S scheduled Wiltshire Senior Cup second round tie with neighbours Bemerton Heath Harlequins has been postponed.

Harlequins drew 1-1 after extra time at Cullumpton Rangers in the FA Vase second round on Saturday thanks to Richard Jackson’s leveller 12 minutes from time.

The replay takes place at Western Way tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45) with the winners drawn at home to either Hartley Wintney or Melksham Town.

The Salisbury game has been rearranged for Tuesday, November 22 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

*THERE were four red cards brandished as Sydenhams Premier leaders Moneyfields crashed out of the FA Vase 4-0 at home to Thatcham Town.

Moneys had three players dismissed and Thatcham skipper Tom Melledew was also sent off in the Copnor mud.

Thatcham – managed by former Alresford and Winchester City co-boss Danny Robinson – led 1-0 at half-time through Josh Helmore.

Shane Cooper-Clark added a second following Melledew’s early second-half dismissal and goals in the final three minutes from Joel Jacobs and James Tennant smoothed Town’s path to a third round trip to Bristol Manor Farm.
