DEVASTATED defender Calum Brockway has been talked out of retiring by Salisbury boss Steve Claridge after dislocating his shoulder again.

Whites’ former Sholing and Folland Sports centre-back sustained the injury in last Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Tiverton.

The setback comes just weeks into his return following a six-month lay-off dating back to the first leg of the FA Vase semi-final at Hereford.

Brockway, who joined Whites in the summer of 2015 from Follands, expects to be sidelined for the rest of the season and his initial thoughts were to quit football.

The 23-year-old Southampton-based defender, who works as an independent financial advisor, admitted: "I always said if it happened again I'd consider my future. My job takes up a lot of my time and this will only affect it even more with most likely having another operation.

"I spoke with the gaffer, though, who said I'm far too young to consider hanging my boots up yet, so I fully intend on coming back. I will know more in a few weeks, but this season is looking unlikely."

Brockway joins Callum Hart, Claudio Herbert and Danny Young on Salisbury’s long-term casualty list.

Salisbury, ninth in the Southern One South & West, host Taunton Town on Saturday.

They could also be without defender Steve Walker who was lucky to escape with just a bruised thigh and a cut head after being involved in an “horrendous” car crash on his way home from the Tiverton game.

The 26-year-old told The (Salisbury) Journal: “Police said I’m lucky to be alive as they have never been to an accident like mine and someone has walked away with minor injuries!

"Someone must have been looking down on me that night.” *Full story in the weekend's Pink.
