THE quarter-final line-up for the Sydenhams League Cup is beginning to take shape.

With Baffins Milton Rovers and Tadley Calleva already flying the Division One flag into the last eight, they were joined by divisional rivals Hamble Club last night.

After battling out a 1-1 draw at Downton, the Monks triumphed 3-1 in the penalty shootout to book their quarter-final berth.

Alex Blake had earlier given Hamble a lead that was wiped out by the Robins’ Shaun Prentice.

Despite Downton's exit, manager Rae Hughes said: "We were superb.

"The energy, quality and commitment is fantastic at the moment but unfortunately for the lads we are just not finishing our chances, which has cost us in the last three matches. I feel for the lads because we have dominated against a top team."

Premier Division high-fliers Sholing were also taken to spot-kicks at lower league Ringwood Town, having surrendered a 2-0 lead.

The Boatmen looked to be sailing through when Dan Mason’s header – his 23rd goal of the season - added to Lee Wort’s 48th-minute opener, but they conceded a minute later.

Sholing then squandered a host of chances to kill off the game and succumbed to an equaliser four minutes into added time.

Young goalkeeper Jordan Brooks emerged as the hero of the night for the Southampton visitors, making two crucial penalty saves in a 4-2 shootout win.

Sholing’s successful spot-kicks came from Wort, Zac Mouland , Kev Brewster and Owen Roundell.

Hamworthy United fell behind to a James Clifton goal against Laverstock & Ford, but hit back through Matt Kemble, Connor Phillips (2), and Ryan Dovell for a 4-1 third-round win.

The evening’s other League Cup action was an all-Sydenhams One second-round showdown between Shaftesbury and New Milton Town.

Shaftesbury came out on top 3-0 through Sammy Lopez, Jamie Jordan and Mali Benjamin and will now travel to the winners of the delayed Folland Sports v Alresford Town tie, scheduled for December 10.

The other outstanding third round matches see holders Team Solent visit Portland United on December 13 and Bemerton Heath Harlequins take on Bashley (date to be decided).

*Last night's sole Sydenhams Premier fixture brought Amesbury Town a 4-2 victory at Bournemouth Poppies.

Josh Stockwell, Paul Coventry, Ben Cook and Tyler Brockway (penalty) struck for the Wiltshire visitors, with Poppies responding through Sami Makhloufi and an own goal.

*Moneyfields ran Portsmouth Senior Cup quarter-final riot at Fareham Town, caning the Creeksiders 8-2 through Gary Austin (2), Nathan Paxton, Dan Hayes, Jake Raine and Liam Kyle. Harry Weeks and George Davis hit back for Fareham.

Moneys are joined in the last four by AFC Portchester who had Luke Sweeney and a Joe Bye penalty to thank for overcoming Paulsgrove 2-0.
