TRAVEL-SICK Salisbury succumbed to their sixth defeat on the road in the Southern One South & West, beaten 3-2 at Evesham United.

It marked an 11th league win on the bounce for the in-form hosts who sit second in the table.

Eddie Perrett and Justin Bennett squandered early chances for the Whites before Evesham’s Ashley Williams had a free header cleared off the line.

Lance Smith broke the deadlock amid a 34th-minute goalmouth scramble and Williams doubled Salisbury’s woes just after the hour.

Evesham had Lewis Binns shown a straight red on 73 minutes but the ten men still managed to increase the lead through Nick Stanley, who was given a criminal amount of time and space to head home.

Salisbury managed to claw one back on 80 minutes when Tom Whelan was upended in the area and Tommy Wright outwitted ex-Whites keeper Kevin Sawyer from the spot.

Three minutes later, an unlikely comeback was on the cards when Bennett’s strike deflected in off teammate Claudio Herbert.

The Whites almost snatched a leveller deep in added time, but Brandon Mundy sent a good chance wide.

In stark contrast to their away form, eighth-placed Salisbury have lost just once at home in the league.

Steve Claridge's men are back at the Ray Mac on Tuesday to face Ian Saunders’ Winchester City (Tuesday, 7.45pm).
