EX-SAINT Jamie White has an outside chance of boosting Blackfield & Langley’s firepower for Saturday’s trip to Exmouth Town in the FA Vase last 64.

The Watersiders’ 21-goal top scorer has been sidelined by a hernia-related injury since the end of October, but is due to have an injection tomorrow.

Without him Blackfield drew a blank at Moneyfields on Saturday, but the 0-0 draw was a welcome result against the league leaders coming just seven days after a catastrophic 4-0 home defeat by Bashley in the Sydenhams Premier.

Manager Glenn Howes’ response to the Bashley debacle was to make six changes, including the introduction of three new signings. Jake Rowley, back from America, is already known to B&L fans as is Kane Daysh, signed from Hamworthy United. Less familiar is Brazilian holding midfielder Nilo Zanchetta from Poole Town.

Howes’ assistant Chris Farrell said: “It was a hard, physical contest without many chances at Moneyfields and it was important we got a result.

“It’s given us a platform to build on, but we need better quality in the last third and we have to use the ball better.

“People have asked if we miss Jamie White – of course we do. He doesn’t need ten chances to score. His goals to chances ratio is probably the best in the league.

“Having a player like Jamie on Saturday would probably have won us the game.

“He’s having an injection on Wednesday and might have a small chance of being involved in the Vase game.

“Exmouth are a strong side and we’ll have to go there and compete. If we do, there’s no reason we can’t get a result.

“We watched them beat Falmouth 4-0 and they watched us play Bashley. We were woeful that day and if that’s what they think we are, then great!”

Promotion-hungry Blackfield, who remain six points adrift of Wessex pacesetters Moneyfields in third spot, have lodged notice of approach for Portland United’s Max Buckler.

“He’s a strong midfielder. Whether we’ll get him or not, I don’t know,” said Farrell.

“The three new players gave us something we’d been missing on Saturday. Things had to change, we were going nowhere, and numbers had to be boosted. Considering he hardly speaks English, Nilo (Zanchetta) integrated really well.

“We were never going to go from being Barnsley Reserves (against Bashley) to Barcelona (at Moneyfields) in the space of a week and we knew it wouldn’t be free-flowing football. But Rico Wilson, Liam Robinson and Luke Winsper all had decent half-chances.”

Blackfield have also signed young centre-half Harrison Shade from Basingstoke Town and are still on the lookout for new additions. “We need more flair and creativity,” Farrell explained.
