EX-EASTLEIGH loanee striker Matt Tubbs is back in the familiar territory of the FA Cup third round.

The 32-year-old former Salisbury City, AFC Bournemouth and Portsmouth marksman scored on his debut for Sutton United on Saturday as the Us put League Town Cheltenham Town to the sword 2-1 at Gander Green Lane.

Tubbs, signed by the Us on a permanent deal from Forest Green Rovers last week, rose to national fame as part of the Crawley Town side that lost 1-0 at Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round in 2011.

Now he is at it again with Paul Doswell’s Sutton, who will host AFC Wimbledon in January.

Sutton hold their own special place in FA Cup history having famously beaten Coventry City in the third round in 1989.

And Tubbs, who scored just twice for Eastleigh on loan from Portsmouth in the second half of last season, said: “There’s always one lower league team that has a run in the Cup and hopefully this year it can be Sutton again.

“I know (Sutton’s ex-Eastleigh striker) Craig McAllister really well from my time at Crawley and he was a key factor in me signing here.”

Meanwhile veteran marksman Jamie Cureton has linked up again with Southern League outfit Farnborough after parting company with Eastleigh.

The sprightly 41-year-old found the net for Boro against Hanwell Town on Saturday, but his ninth-minute equaliser counted for nothing as the high-riding north Hampshire club lost their unbeaten home league record in a 3-2 Division One Central defeat.

Cureton, released by Dagenham & Redbridge at the end of last season, had already scored eight times for Farnborough when Eastleigh signed him in September. He left the Spitfires in the wake of manager Ronnie Moore's departure last week.
