ALRESFORD Town’s unbeaten run in the Sydenhams Premier Division has hit double figures.
Saturday’s 5-2 triumph at Newport IoW makes it seven wins and three draws from their last ten league games, placing the Magpies ninth.
The visitors produced a dominant first-half display once they had got over the shock of Port’s Ryan Thomas hitting the crossbar inside the first minute.
Alresford’s Steve Hall responded by hitting the base of the post before John Cole had a header cleared off the line and Sam Burt drew a point-blank save from Port’s Gary Streeter.
The dam finally burst on 17 minutes when Tom Richards curled in a 20-yard free-kick and Keelan Sainsbury’s own goal doubled the Magpies advantage.
By half-time it was 4-0 to the Magpies with Burt and Hall weighing in, and although Connor Kelly and Jared Wetherick gave the Islanders hope, Alresford caught them on the break late on to add a fifth through Scott Munro.
