GOSPORT Borough are set to wave goodbye to yet another player.

Their former captain Sam Pearce will be leaving the troubled Privett Park club on January 18 when his loan deal with Farnborough expires.

Pearce, who added community football work to his playing duties at Gosport, tweeted: “I wish Gosport Borough all the best for the future and hope the club can return to good times sooner rather than later.”

The ex-Havant, Bognor and Salisbury defender gave special thanks to Borough’s assistant manager Mick Catlin, describing him as “the glue that held us together.”

Pearce follows the likes of Martin Rice, Adam Wilde, Chris Flood, Jamie Barron and Dan Wooden out of the Privett Park door.

Three other players – Warren Bentley, TJ Cuthbertson and Mike Carter – are looking to get away from Borough, who are precariously placed just two points above the National League South drop zone.

Gosport, on a run of five straight defeats, have no game this weekend but return to action on Tuesday at home to AFC Bournemouth’s development squad in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup quarter-finals.

The full quarter-final line-up that evening is: Hartley Wintney v AFC Totton (7.30), Gosport Borough v AFC Bournemouth, Sholing v Winchester City, Basingstoke Town v AFC Stoneham.
