DAVE Lewis jokingly dubbed Lymington Town’s 2-0 victory over Verwood “the freak show.”

Town’s boss affectionately calls central defender Carlo Tate a “freak” for still being a Wessex Premier force at the age of 46.

That makes him a staggering 29 years older than the ‘baby’ of the Lymington side, on-loan Eastleigh wideman Owen Fee, and both were on target in Saturday’s win.

Lewis laughed: “The freak, Carlo Tate, capped a fantastic personal display by volleying in on 46 minutes from a corner, would you believe?!

“Our second goal was a free-kick from Owen Fee, so we scored through the youngest and oldest on the field.

“We were not at our best overall in a difficult wind, but it was another clean sheet and a good three points.”

Lymington are ninth after five straight league wins and tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) face a stern test at home to sixth-placed Horndean.

*ANDOVER Town heightened Fawley AFC’s relegation fears with a 3-1 Sydenhams Premier win at the Portway Stadium.

With both their recognised goalkeepers suspended, defender McCaulie Stubbs donned the Andover gloves and it was from his miskicked clearance that Dylan Gain grabbed the Oilers’ reply.

But Town, who welcomed back fans’ favourite Sam Pekun, were well in the driving seat by then with player/assistant boss Zach Glasspool (2) and Ross Gregory giving them a three-goal buffer.

Andover tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) travel to Bournemouth Poppies who slugged out a 3-3 draw at Brockenhurst.

Three times Poppies took the lead through Manny Ohameje (2) and Luke Ayrton, but Brock pegged them back on each occasion courtesy of Ryan Long, Mark Barker’s penalty and Matt Vokes’ late leveller.

*NEWPORT IoW staged a second-half surge to see off Hamworthy United 3-2 at St George’s Park.

Trailing to Ed Zanin’s strike at the interval, the Islanders eased 3-1 up with Liam Triggs’ goal sandwiched between a Tom McInnes double.

Aiden Sainsbury found his own net under pressure on 90 minutes, but Port managed to see out stoppage time with no further mishaps.

*FIGHTBACK of the day belonged to Bemerton Heath Harlequins who recovered from 2-0 down to triumph 5-3 at AFC Portchester.

Tony Easter and Nathan Kirby had put the Royals in command, but they fell apart after the break with manager Graham Rix branding their defending “shocking.”

Richard Jackson (2), Scott Joyce, Sam Griffin and Jon Blake struck for Bemerton with Tom Cain bagging Portchester’s third.
