GOSPORT Borough’s hopes of National League South survival are getting fainter by the week.

On Saturday they crashed 2-0 away to rock-bottom Margate who celebrated their first win in 20 league matches.

The basement battle looked destined to end goalless until Gate sub Ira Jackson struck two late goals, starting with an 88th-minute penalty which saw Borough 'keeper Nick Jordan dismissed.

Margate’s Dean Morgan had earlier skied an 11th-minute spot kick over, while Gosport’s ex-Eastleigh striker Ben Wright hit the bar from two yards out.

Borough remain third-to-bottom, five points adrift of safety.

It was a disappointing day too for fifth-placed Poole Town, beaten 2-1 by lowly Welling United at Park View Road.

Dolphins boss Tom Killick, named manager-of-the-month for February, was sent to the stand with his side trailing to a sixth-minute own goal and a 24th-minute Harry Crawford penalty.

Steve Devlin reduced the arrears from the spot following a push on Luke Roberts, but Poole couldn’t muster a leveller as their five-match unbeaten run petered out.
