BASHLEY were shown no mercy last season when they propped up the Southern One South & West table with a pitiful two points.

But on Saturday the boot was on the other foot as they fired four past a Verwood Town side already relegated from the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Despite their predicament, back-markers Verwood played with a passion, pride and fighting spirit that ensured the game was no walk-over.

Bashley led on eight minutes when Jesse Gould swung a free-kick into a crowded goalmouth for ex-AFC Totton striker Dan Munday to head in.

Gould was again the supplier, this time from a corner, as the visitors increased their lead on 37 minutes with Hugh Dathan header, and it was 3-0 come half-time as young Harry McGrath plundered the goal of the game.

Cutting in from the right, McGrath left a couple of defenders in his wake before sending a precision 15-yarder into the far, top corner.

The unseasonal hot sun sucked the energy out of the game second half. Bash threw on all three subs and got a fourth ten minutes from time when Kabba Jack scuffed home a penalty after sub Derek Hayford had been upended. It was Jack's 20th goal of the season.

*Lymington Town were held 1-1 at home by draw specialists Newport IoW.

Ashley Jarvis gave Lymo the lead five minutes before the break, capitalising on bizarre mix-up between Port goalkeeper Gary Streeter and defender Oliver West.

Lymington goalkeeper Ross Casey kept out a Connor Kelly penalty and denied the same player with a fingertip save before Charlie Willett hit the crossbar for the hosts.

It was then Lymo's turn to miss a penalty - Jarvis's shot striking the post - before Jared Wetherick's low cross found the unmarked Kelly to equalise with five minutes remaining. It rescued Newport a 17th draw of the league campaign.
