TEAM Solent left it late to end their three-match winless run in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

The Students salvaged a 1-0 victory over Bemerton Heath Harlequins with just minutes left to play at Test Park, writes Baldeep Chahal.

It was Bemerton who'd had the lion's share of chances, but a late counter-attack saw Matt Sheedy fire home the winner.

The first half was a cagey affair. Not much was created, but some full-blooded challenges presented referee Jacob Wright with a difficult task to keep the game under control.

The bad blood continued after the break, with a total of seven yellow cards being dished out by the end of the game.

To Bemerton’s dismay, substitute Josh Buck saw his half-volley graze the bottom of the post in the dying moments before Solent caught them on the counter-attack.

Winger Tobi Adekunle ghosted past his man before picking out Sheedy at the back post. His first effort was denied, but the No6 did not squander a second opportunity to earn his side the three points.

The win kept Team Solent in eighth spot ahead of tonight's (Monday) home game against Newport IoW.

ANDOVER Town completed a season’s double over Cowes Sports in the Sydenhams Premier Division, triumphing 4-1 at a sun-drenched Westwood Park.

Cowes were architects of their own downfall when Aidan Bryan’s attempted back pass was intercepted by Sam Pekun who drilled the visitors ahead.

A minute later another defensive error let in Shane Lock on the left and he squared the ball for Zach Glasspool to double Andover’s advantage.

Jordan Browne latched onto a long ball and lobbed Jarid Hixon in the visitors’ goal for 2-1 but, having survived a sustained spell of Cowes pressure at the start of the second half, Andover regained their two-goal cushion on the hour when Glasspool teed up Alex Dockree to smash home.

Javi Santafe-Vivo then rattled the crossbar and Glasspool fired the loose ball over before, on 84 minutes, Aaron Nesbeth swept home his first ever Andover goal following an exchange of passes with Dockree.

FAREHAM Town were left to ponder what might have been after a 1-1 home draw with Alresford Town in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Having converted one penalty to give Fareham the lead following a foul on Ash Tattersall, Curt Robbins had another well saved by Magpies’ keeper Dan Kempson.

Simon Woods then squandered another great chance for the Reds before Alresford hit back late for a point.

Sub John Cole climbed off the bench to grab the Magpies’ leveller with eight minutes remaining.

Alresford, fifth, host tenth-placed Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Sixth-placed Horndean edged past relegation-battling Bournemouth Poppies 1-0 at Five Heads Park thanks to Mark Smith's winner.
