FORMER Eastleigh striker Tony Lee scored twice for Gosport Borough at Concord Rangers yesterday – but it wasn’t enough to ward off relegation.

After four seasons in the National League (Conference) South, Borough are on their way down, with chairman Mark Hook admitting they simply didn’t have the finances to compete.

Going into stoppage time, Gosport held a hard-fought 2-1 lead, but everything conspired against them.

A fumble by young sub goalkeeper Lewis Watch presented Concord with a stoppage-time leveller and that, combined with wins for Whitehawk and Truro, sent Borough down with one game remaining.

To rub salt in Gosport wounds, arch-rivals Havant & Waterlooville will swap places with them next season having sealed the Ryman Premier title with a 0-0 draw at Kingstonian.

It kept Lee Bradbury’s Hawks two points clear of south coast neighbours Bognor who could only draw 1-1 with Met Police.

Whitehawk secured their NL South survival with a 2-0 home win over fifth-placed Poole Town.

It was a result that infuriated Poole boss Tom Killick, who described his team's performance as “inept” and “insipid.”

With Hungerford losing at Wealdstone, the Dolphins remain two points clear of the Berkshire team in fifth.

Poole's appeal against their expulsion from the play-offs, should they qualify, will be heard at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.
