MANAGER Dave Diaper does not expect classy right-back TJ Cuthbertson to be wearing a Sholing shirt next term.

Cuthbertson rejoined the Sydenhams Premier club in January on a deal until the end of the season after parting company with National League South crisis club Gosport Borough.

He did enough at Privett Park to prove he is more than capable of handling Step 2 level and Diaper fully expects him to make the move up again this summer.

Cuthbertson was outstanding in Sholing’s recent Southampton Senior Cup triumph at St Mary’s and his man-of-the-match performance will not have gone unnoticed by Poole Town’s Tom Killick who was in attendance that night.

“TJ’s such a good player that we expect him to move on,” said Diaper.

"He's the only one I haven't asked to re-sign for Sholing. TJ's his own man and he needs to sort out what he wants to do. Everyone knows how well he did at Gosport and he was excellent for us in the final at St Mary's.

"If he does go, he knows there's always a place for him here if things don't work out. He remembered that when he was at Gosport."

Diaper, meanwhile, plumped for winger turned left-back Marvin McLean as his manager’s player-of-the-season.

The nippy wideman – scorer of the Boatmen’s winning Wembley goal in the 2014 FA Vase final – has been outstanding in the full-back role.

“If he’d started his career at left-back I reckon he’d have made the pro game, I honestly do. He’s that good,” said Diaper.

“People try and push the ball past him and beat him for pace – but they’ll never beat Marvin!

“He’s played 500 and odd games for the club and, at this rate, he’ll end up with 600-700 games under his belt - there are not many players who can boast that."

Deadly Dan Mason, Sholing’s 45-goal Wessex Premier top scorer, picked up the players’ player and golden boot awards, while promising 17-year-old full-back Owen Royl was named young player-of-the-year.
