AFC TOTTON boss Louis Langdown admitted neither side deserved to win Saturday’s FA preliminary round tie at “bobble city.”

As if the slope at Fleet Town was not enough to contend with, it was a bumpy surface too.

So Langdown was not too disappointed to come away with a 1-1 draw and a second bite of the FA Cup cherry at the Stags’ newly-named Total Branding Community Stadium on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Totton took a 31st-minute. Craig Feeney was upended in the penalty area when, having turned and got away from one defender, he was trying to hold off two more.

A penalty looked on the cards but the referee played advantage and the ball broke for Curtis Young to apply the finishing touch.

That brought the best out of Fleet who levelled on the stroke of half-time when, following a save from Stags’ resilient keeper Shane Murphy, Ben Toye tucked away the rebound.

Both sides could have won it in the second half with Totton defender Callum Chugg a key figure at both ends.

The former Fawley man put in a fantastic tackle to thwart Fleet sub Sam Pekun. He could then have scored at the other end, but couldn’t quite get enough on a glancing header from Jack Masterton’s free-kick.

Langdown, whose side had won their opening two Evo-Stik South West fixtures - was honest enough to admit: “I don’t think either side deserved to win. It wasn’t much of a footballing spectacle and I wouldn’t have paid to watch it.

“It was ‘bobble city’ and the game was more about tackles, headers and clearances than good football.

“But it showed a good side to us. We dug in and put bodies on the line and the positives are that we’re three games unbeaten and still in the FA Cup.

“We’ve got Slimbridge to come in the league at home on Saturday and, if we can come up with a couple more performances like our first two, it could be a pretty good week for us.

“Hopefully we’ll get it right on Tuesday.”

Left-back Ian Oliver may be back on Tuesday after missing Saturday’s tie with a swollen ankle.

Right-back Connor York was back on the bench after injury and defender Dave Allen, who has been out with foot problems, travelled but wasn’t included.
