HORNDEAN have hit a goal drought with just days to go before their FA Vase third round trip to Hamble Club.

Michael Birmingham’s men have lost three games on the bounce in league and cup since beating Royal Wootton Bassett 3-2 in the last round of the Vase.

Their latest tale of woe was Saturday’s 3-0 Sydenhams Premier defeat at Bemerton Heath Harlequins, beaten by goals from ex-Eastleigh and Salisbury targetman Robbie Matthews (2) and Jack Slade.

“The art of putting the ball into the back of the net appears to have deserted us,” bemoaned Birmingham, whose side have slipped to seventh.

No such worries for ninth-placed Hamble Club who came back from behind to beat Brockenhurst 2-1 at The Abbey.

Noel McCarthy-Gardiner put Brock ahead inside 25 minutes before Nathan Lynch netted twice for the Monks, who are now unbeaten in five league and cup games.

That run kicked off with a dramatic 5-4 extra-time win over Brockenhurst in the Vase, setting up Saturday’s last-64 clash against Horndean.
