SYDENHAMS Premier leaders Andover Town are confident of keeping hold of top gun Zach Glasspool – despite receiving notice of approach from their main title rivals.

Second-placed Blackfield & Langley, who travel to Sholing in the FA Vase third round on Saturday, have declared their interest in the former Alresford Town and Winchester City targetman.

Glasspool has had a storming start to the season, hitting 23 goals in 25 games for Andover and manager Glenn Burnett would be surprised to see him go.

“I got to know Zach when I was at Winchester and being in a good environment is important to him.

"He’s happy here and that's showing in the goals he’s scoring. I’d like to think he would stay," he said.

“Blackfield put in a seven-dayer last week and we’ll see what the contact is from them.”

One player who has left the Portway is goalkeeper Lloyd Thomas, who has joined divisional rivals Horndean.

Town recently signed Luke Cairney from Farnborough and also think highly of young Kieran McHardy from Salisbury’s under-18s.

“I never like to lose anyone,” said Burnett. “Lloyd’s done really well for us."

Andover are ten points clear of Blackfield and could stretch that lead with a positive result at home to Hamworthy United on Saturday.
