PREMIER League and Eastleigh fans can take advantage of cut-price admission for Winchester City’s big New Year’s Day showdown (3pm) against AFC Totton.

With both sides pushing for promotion from the Evo-Stik South West, there will be more than just local rivalry at stake at Winchester’s Simplyhealth City Ground.

The two clubs are thriving under the leadership of their respective managers, Winchester’s Craig Davis and Totton’s Louis Langdown, and hopefully there is a feast of football in store.

Any Saints, Portsmouth, Bournemouth or Eastleigh season-ticket holders will gain admission for just £5 on the production of the relevant pass.

In addition, any Winchester supporters with a ticket from the home game against Shortwood United on Saturday week (December 23), will also be admitted for £5 (please retain your ticket from the Shortwood game for this reduction) and children under-16 will get in free of charge.

Normal admission prices at the ground are £8 adults, £5 concessions and £1 12 to 16-year-olds.

City's last concessions game proved a roaring success with a crowd of 623 turning out for a goal-packed 5-4 defeat against Salisbury in the cathedral city derby.

The postponement of last Saturday’s scheduled trip to Slimbridge, due to a frozen pitch, dropped Winchester to sixth in the South West table.

Davis improvised by setting up a training session, but admitted: “It’s really frustrating. When you’re on a good run of form, which we are, you just want the games to keep coming.

“Slimbridge had not been on a good run and we felt we could go and get three points.

“Looking at the results, a win would have taken us second.”

On the plus side, Winchester’s influential wideman Rob Carr would not have been available for the Slimbridge trip, but hopefully he will be for the rearranged fixture.

Weather permitting, City will hit the road to mid-table Kidlington on Saturday in the league.

The Citizens will have revenge in mind, having lost 1-0 at home to the Oxfordshire outfit in the league in August and been turned over 3-1 away in the FA Trophy in October.
