AFC STONEHAM pulled off a memorable giant-killing tonight to book their place in the final of the Russell Cotes Cup.

The Sydenhams Division One side shed their ‘underdogs’ tag to stun two-leagues-higher AFC Totton 3-1 at the Total Branding Community Stadium.

Sergio Caballero was the Purples’ hero, putting his side ahead on 22 minutes with a cool one-on-one finish and then crowning victory with a cheeky chip over Stags’ keeper Shane Murphy.

Charlie Gunson had rifled in an equaliser for 1-1 at half-time before Stoneham’s Ben Clarke struck from a corner early in the second half.

Totton boss Louis Langdown was honourable in defeat, tweeting: “Well played @a_stoneham fully deserved the win this eve. No luck involved, no excuses…fully humbled tonight.

“We all take responsibility. This is my team & this eve we were second best.”

Sydenhams Premier leaders Andover Town await Stoneham in an all-Wessex final after overpowering Fareham 4-1 at the Portway.

Alex Dockree began and finished the scoring for Glenn Burnett’s men, with Joe Wright and Reece Rusher also on target. Josh Holmes bagged Fareham’s consolation.

Rounding off a perfect evening for Andover was news that their closest league rivals Blackfield & Langley were beaten 2-0 by Alresford Town at Gang Warily.

Craig Harding and Ryan Green inflicted the first-half damage for the merry Magpies, who defended superbly after the break to keep Blackfield at bay.

Sholing’s TJ Cuthbertson, Dan Mason (2) and a Marvin McLean stunner saw off Amesbury Town 4-0 at the Universal Stadium, but it was a poor night for Team Solent, turned over 5-1 at Horndean for whom Harry Jackson bagged a hat-trick.

Ash Howes and ‘Fuzz’ Kanjanda had got the Deans’ show on the road and all Team Solent were left with was a late Silvano Obeng consolation goal.

Hamble Club twice came back from behind to burst AFC Portchester’s bubble 3-2 at Wicor Rec.

Having had Nathan Kirby’s penalty wiped out by Jack McCarthy, Portchester reclaimed the lead through Andy Todd.

But Hamble top gun Nathan Lynch settled it with two quickfire goals in the 76th and 77th minutes.

There was sweet relief for Brockenhurst as they ended a winless 13-game league sequence 1-0 at Cowes Sports - Mitch Speechley-Price the scorer.

Cowes’ Island neighbours Newport IW fared no better, beaten 2-1 at Baffins Milton Rovers after leading through Aurele Beya.

Andover New Street reclaimed top spot in Sydenhams One with a 1-0 home win over Tadley Calleva – Zac Neve the scorer.

Meanwhile, down on the Waterside, Fawley AFC edged Totton & Eling 3-2 through Ben Bolton, Dylan Knight and Pete Keating.

For the Millers, 16-year-old Lewis Connor netted on his debut and was joined on the scoresheet by Nathan Gray.

Sway progressed to the Hampshire Premier League Cup final after beating league leaders Bush Hill 4-2 on penalties. The game had ended 2-2 with Martyn Randall and Tom Strong scoring for Bush Hill.
