FORMER Bashley boss Tom Prodomo has taken on the role of assistant manager to Mark Molesley at Evo-Stik South Premier promotion chasers Weymouth.

He steps into the shoes of Paul Maitland, who has moved upstairs to become director of football.

Prodomo parted company with Sydenhams Wessex Premier outfit Bashley in May last year to become head coach of the Terras.

Discussing his change of role, he said: “In reality they are just titles and I think the important thing is that we are keeping the staff together.

“It is something we have pushed for internally and a model that really works for us. I think it probably accentuates all the strengths we have got within the staff. From that point of view, it is business as usual.”

He added: “From a personal point of view, I said at the start of the season when I joined the club that it is an absolute privilege to be involved with Weymouth Football Club and everything that brings with it, our fantastic fans and the great group of players we've got.

“I think the season so far has certainly ignited a spark back in the football club as you have seen over the past week. We have had two games here with over 800 (fans) on a Tuesday night against Slough when England are playing, and then we have backed that up with over 1,000 against Gosport.

“There are good signs of life in the club and there are good signs of positive things to happen, but we cannot get carried away with that. We need to make sure we keep preparing for games in the same way and keep looking after the little details.”

Weymouth, currently third in the table, are away to Redditch United on Saturday.
