THERE were more red cards than goals at Cams Alders where Fareham Town slipped to an ill-tempered 2-1 defeat by Shaftesbury in the Sydenhams Premier.

Shaftesbury’s ex-Eastleigh, Salisbury and AFC Totton defender Jack Vallis got his marching orders for two first-half bookings before Curt Robbins gave Fareham an early secondhalf lead.

Having made all three substitutions, the visitors then lost Rob Hatchard to a head injury, reducing them to nine men, but an own goal got them back on terms before Fareham had both Gary Austin and George Davis sent off.

Shaftesbury sub Aaron White was then shown a straight red for dissent, making it nine-versus-eight.

Against the odds, it was the visitors who grabbed a late winner when sub Nick Hewlett raced into the box and curled the ball home.
