BROCKENHURST’S six-match unbeaten Sydenhams Premier run ground to a halt at home to Hamble Club.

Having fought back from 2-0 down to level 2-2 at the Meadens Skoda Arena, the Badgers undid all their good work by conceding a late penalty which Ben Kneller’s Monks gleefully converted for 3-2.

Brock weren’t at the races in the first half and were punished when Jack McCarthy and teed up River Smith to put Hamble in front.

The visitors then doubled their advantage with a Mike Amoah free-kick. Brock responded positively, halving the deficit early in the second half when Matt Vokes won a free kick.

Mitch SpeechleyPrice dummied his run-up and Ronan Moore lofted it over the wall for 2-1. With the Foresters getting on top for the first time, Vokes had an effort ruled out for offside.

Their reward eventually came, however, when sub Noel McCarthy-Gardiner was tripped inside the box.

Speechley-Price had his penalty parried by Monks’ keeper Rory Anderson, but he tucked the rebound away for 2-2.

Having worked so hard for that lifeline, the Badgers then threw it away.

A misplaced back pass panicked Dammy Bada into conceding a late penalty and Alex Blake sent young keeper Luke Deacon the wrong way.

Brock boss Pat McManus tweeted: “Mini unbeaten run at an end today. Second best for the whole of the 1st half. Good luck to @hamblefc with their remaining games and well done to @BenKnells what he’s achieved there.”

LYMINGTON Town missed a golden opportunity to take all three points against Bournemouth Poppies in the Sydenhams Premier Division on Saturday.

Lymo were leading 2-1 with goals from Sam House and Ashley Jarvis when the Poppies had a player sent off.

But the ten-man visitors persevered and fully deserved to score a late equaliser for 2-2. Lewis Harvey and Nasim Medah scored for Bournemouth.

Highlight of the match from a Lymington perspective was having club stalwart Callum Davies captaining the team for the first time.

Lymington, eighth, tomorrow host Cowes Sports (7.30pm).

The Islanders will travel to Southampton Road in good heart having battled out a 2-2 draw at Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Saturday.

Bemerton twice took the lead through Jake Rawkins and Robbie Matthews, but John McKie pegged them back on both occasions – his second a late penalty awarded for handball.

PETERSFIELD Town are mourning the loss of their former physio Simon Bennett who passed away last week.

Simon and his wife Claire were the Rams’ physios when, under the leadership of Ian Saunders, Town lifted the 2013/14 Sydenhams Wessex One crown and won the Premier Division title the following season.

“I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Simon’s death,” said Petersfield vice-chairman Graeme Moir.

“Simon was one of life’s nice guys and he was an extremely popular man around the club.

“Our hearts go out to Claire and Simon’s family and friends at this extremely sad time.”

Rock-bottom Petersfield will be back in Division One next season. Their fate was sealed with a 3-1 defeat at Amesbury Town on Saturday.

BASHLEY lost their final home game of the Sydenhams Premier campaign 1-0 to AFC Portchester.

With just one outfield substitute available and 17-year-old student Charlie Ferguson starting, Bashley’s problems deepened in the build-up to the only goal of the game.

George Pooley was injured in a failed attempt to prevent flying winger Rob Evans picking out the far corner.

Two minutes later it was game over for Pooley, pressing sole sub Ross Aimson – younger brother of Lewis – into a debut appearance with just 13 minutes gone.

Young Aimson almost scored with his very first touch – a far-post header from Dan Thompson’s cross.

Portchester’s Dan Wooden talked himself into a red card in the second half and, to even things up, Bashley’s Brad Morris limped off with no sub to replace him.
