WINCHESTER City’s longest-serving player is to be awarded a testimonial.

Left-back Danny King has spent more than decade as a Citizen, making around 400 appearances for the cathedral city club.

A teacher by trade, he played for Oakwood as a boy and spent time on Saints' and Chelsea’s books in his youth.

City have set aside the afternoon of Saturday, May 12, to pay tribute to their popular club stalwart and are inviting any former City players he has played with to take part in the game.

“We’ve had a big response already. Danny’s a very well-liked lad,” said director of football Dave Malone.

“We have invited over 100 players, coaches and managers who have been associated with Kinger over the years and we hope to play our current squad of players against two or three mixed teams from those that attend on the day.

“It’s sure to be a day to remember and an opportunity to meet up with some old faces from the past.”

Admission is £5 and £10 for a family of up to four. Children under-12 go free.

Gates will open at 1.30pm with the football due to start around 3pm.

*Winchester City will be holding open training sessions for next seasons under-16s on Wednesdays May 9 and 16 and Saturday May 12.

They are looking to build a side that can compete in the City of Southampton Youth League.

Any current U15 player interested in joining a southern league club should call Ryan Andress 07891 245839.

City’s U16s are currently unbeaten all season. They sit top of the league and are in the finals of both the League and Hampshire Cups.

A few of the team have already played U18s football and one has turned out for the reserves.
