BLACKFIELD & Langley have secured the Sydenhams Premier Division title for the second time in six seasons.

The Watersiders had all but claimed the crown prior to last night's final game at Brockenhurst, having overtaken long-time league leaders Andover Town on goal difference.

In the end, they won the title by a point, bringing their season's total to a round 100 after a well contested 1-1 draw at Brock's Meadens Skoda Arena.

Having fired a dream chance over on 35 minutes, Blackfield’s Craig McAllister made amends two minutes later by powerfully heading home Joe Butcher’s cross.

Brock could well have led themselves before then, but Matt Burt’s header was cleared off the line and Mitch Speechley-Price was denied by Watersiders’ goalkeeper Brad Snelling.

The Badgers’ young keeper Luke Deacon was also alert to turn away Connor Doe’s 25-yarder for Blackfield.

Having run into form at the end of the season, Brockenhurst were in no mood to meekly surrender to the champions elect and their persistence was rewarded on 63 minutes.

The referee pointed to the spot for a foul on Toby Falodi and Will Tickle stepped up to level with a well-struck penalty.

Blackfield almost reclaimed the lead with 15 minutes remaining, but Ronan Moore was in the right place at the right time to clear a header by ex-Badger Rudy Plummer off the line.

The final whistle heralded celebration time for Glenn Howes’ Blackfield, who deserve much credit for never giving up on the title even when Andover were streets ahead.

The Watersiders now have promotion to the Southern League to look forward to and they also had the thrill of twice gracing St Mary's in the Hampshire and Southampton Senior Cups.

It was a satisfying night too for Brockenhurst who finished the season in a respectable 13th place having lost just one of their last dozen league games.
