FORMER Saints striker Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the only goal as Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat against the New York Red Bulls.
Arsene Wenger fielded a strong Arsenal starting line-up but they fell behind to a Wright-Phillips opener just after the half-hour mark as he slotted home after Ambroise Oyongo headed down Arsenal legend Thierry Henry's corner.
Jack Wilshere came close to netting an equaliser minutes later with a great effort on target, but the England midfielder was denied by goalkeeper Luis Robles.
And Arsenal's best chance to get something from the pre-season friendly came from 18-year-old striker Chuba Akpom in the second half, as he managed to shake of his marker but then shot straight at Robles as the Gunners were denied in front of a crowd of 25,219.
