SHOLING will continue to field a back five of teenagers in tonight’s Russell Cotes Cup tie at Bemerton.

Goalkeeper Jordan Brook, 18, replaced the injured Ryan Gosney during the 1-1 draw against Fareham on Saturday.

He will continue behind the freshfaced back four of Corey Cherrett, 19, Kieran Winman, 17, Owen Roundell, 18 and Owen Royl, 17, tonight.

Another Dan Mason wonder goal gave Sholing the lead on Saturday but they failed to close the gap on Sydenhams Wessex Premier leaders Moneyfields, who drew against Blackfield & Langley.

Mason gave Sholing a 71st-minute lead with a 25-yard, left-footed volley into the far corner, but Simon Woods equalised in injury time.

“Dan keeps coming up with these wonder goals and this time it was with his ‘wrong’ foot,” said manager Dave Diaper, whose side is unbeaten in seven league and cup matches this month.

“But we didn’t see the game out and conceding in the 91st-minute was very disappointing. We did the same against Ringwood and Bemerton in the league which is a bit concerning.”

Sholing missed Lee Wort’s movement on Saturday. The striker is available tonight but midfielder and captain Byron Mason is suspended.

Goalkeeper Gosney is also a doubt for this Saturday’s game against Hamworthy United.

Diaper explained: “He came off his line to clear a ball but a Fareham player left his foot in and he may also have a strain.”

A brace from sub Paul Joyce helped Bemerton earn a 2-2 draw after being 2-0 down against Portland on Saturday.

They have an FA Vase third round tie against Melksham Town on Saturday.
