DAN Mason scored his 35th goal and Sholing’s 100th of the league and cup campaign in a 1-0 Sydenhams Premier win over Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

A busy night for referee Josh Osofa saw five Harlequins players yellow-carded and their former AFC Totton man Jake Burgess dismissed on 32 minutes following a tangle with Marvin McLean.

Bemerton skipper Richard Jackson and Sam Griffin had been cautioned in a scrappy opening period – Griffin’s challenge on Corey Cherrett resulting in the Sholing man having to bow out after treatment.

Burgess’s dismissal followed before Sholing defender Dan Miller also went into Mr Osofa’s book.

Bemerton’s ten men were finally broken on 55 minutes when Dan Mason was hauled down and got up to take the penalty. Heath ’keeper Jason Collins guessed the right way, but could only help the ball into the net.

Greg Horlock, Elliott Cross and Jordan Cole all added to Bemerton’s yellow card collection as Sholing saw out their fifth straight victory in all competitions.

For the second time this season, Sydenhams One leaders Hamble Club were held to a 2-2 draw by US Portsmouth – two great strikes from Coby Wilson earning the Monks a point at Burnaby Road.

Josh Smith and Jordan Neal twice brought the on-song Pompey hosts back from behind, stretching their unbeaten run to 15 games.

Gosport Borough needed a late Tom Bird winner to see off AFC Stoneham 3-2 in the Russell Cotes Cup quarter-finals.

Sydenhams One underdogs Stoneham were seconds away from a penalty shootout after two-goal Ashley Ledger had snuffed out Ben Wright’s brace for Gosport, but Bird had the last word.

Ex-Saint Matt Paterson and former Cherry James Hayter bagged a brace apiece as Havant & Waterlooville crushed AFC Portchester 5-0 in the Portsmouth Senior Cup semi-final at Westleigh Park. George Barker also scored for the Hawks.
