Anglers catch big bass in Southampton Water

CRACKING bass for the time of year have been recorded from the higher reaches of Southampton Water.

James French landed two from the deep water section at Magazine Lane – in the shadows of Southampton container port.

During an evening session he had noticed bass feeding on pouting which he had been returning to the water at close range. So he switched tactics and fished a freeline pouting in the margins – to be rewarded by a super bass which weighed in at 9lb 1oz.

Using the same tactics on a daylight session to the same venue he took a four pounder.
