Coach Mike Watts must wonder which Trojans team is going to turn up when he arrives at the Stoneham club’s South League Hampshire/Surrey Regional Division 1 matches.

After enjoying a seven-match unbeaten start, Trojans looked odds-on for a second consecutive title, but three defeats on the spin lost them the leadership, writes MIKE VIMPANY.

They addressed that blip by beating Yateley and Wanderers either side of Christmas – but then stumbled to a 2-1 defeat at second from bottom Reigate Priory.

But it was back to winning ways at Chapel Gate – Trojans bouncing back to beat Bournemouth 4-0 and put themselves in good shape for Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against Havant at Stoneham Lane, 1.30.

“We played fast furious attacking hockey but squandered a number of good opportunities in the first half by rushing the final pass or shot,” Watts said.

Bournemouth hit the bar, but generally had few opportunities to get shots on Steve Cole’s goal.

Trojans’ pressure eventually told after the break with Piers Everleigh scoring twice to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Mike Swindin made it 3-0 from a drag flick penalty corner and James Watts finished off a late move between Jack Culmer and Everleigh to seal the victory.
