The Hampshire Cross-Country League reached its climax with the last race of five taking place at Hudson’s Field in Salisbury with a host of local runners claiming season titles.

Ellie Monks (senior women), Zac Mahamed (under-13 boys) and Mo Mahamed (under-17 men) – all of Southampton – picked up their respective league championships.

Winchester & District’s veteran women won their overall team competition and Alan Murchison won the veteran men’s league. Monks finished fifth on the day with a 20min 17sec run, enough to claim a senior women’s title. Southampton’s Laura Brenton came second, meaning she finished third in the standings. In the female team table Southampton and Winchester & District finished second and third respectively. Mo Mahamed continued his blistering season as he zoomed to victory in 17min 22sec and claimed his unbeaten title in front of fellow Southampton runner George Butler, in second. The Southampton under-17s won their league.

Zac Mahamed rounded off a flawless season as he topped the under-13 boys’ standings with another win (10:45). His team finished third. Murchinson made it a perfect season as he once again topped the veterans’ standings with a 31min 56sec run, helping his team to third place in the final table. Meanwhile, in the women’s veterans category, Karen Rushton claimed second after finishing 16th (21:32).

Elsewhere, Alex Wall-Clarke’s eighth place (32:02) meant he narrowly missed out on a top three in the senior men’s overall league ending up in fourth. His team, however, claimed second.

Stuart McCallum of Winchester was first in the under-20s and rounded off a good season in third place overall. Winchester’s under-15s and under-17s both came home second in their respective team events and Alla Garside finished third with an 8min 47 sec run.
