HAMPSHIRE will take four of their 2013 individual gold medallists back to Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium next month for the 84th English Schools’ Track & Field Championships.

High jumpers Adam Jones (Wildern) and Katya Oldfield (Cams Hill) both step up into the intermediate age-group after lifting their respective junior crowns last year.

Having won the junior girls’ shot put title last summer, Cams Hill’s Millie Cavanagh is switching her attention to the intermediate javelin, while Leslie Parkes of South Downs College aims to make his mark on the senior age group after heading the inter boys’ hammer field last term.

Upper Shirley High sprinter Oliver Bromby, currently ranked joint first nationally in the under-17 men’s 100 metres with 10.68 seconds, hopes to go one better than last summer’s inter boys’ silver in his second year at that age-group.

Peter Symonds’ middle distance prospect Emily Jenkinson will carry the county hopes in senior girls’ 800m. It will be one of her last domestic appearance before she jets off to America in August to begin a five-year scholarship at the University of Central Florida. Encouragingly, Hampshire had 94 English Schools’ entry standard performances to choose from in assembling their travelling party of 60.

The two-day schools’ extravaganza takes place on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12. Hampshire will be looking to better their 2013 tally of seven gold, six silver and four bronze medals.
