Their partners know a thing or two about being put through their paces - but now a group of Royal Marines wives are ready to follow suit.

Sixteen wives are preparing to run the 25th Bupa Great South Run to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines.

They are taking on the world's leading 10 mile running event on Sunday October 26 to raise £5,000 for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.

Janey McCulley, from Lee-on-Solent, said: “I’m running the Great South Run because my husband was seriously injured in Afghanistan in 2011 so I’m very aware of how charities like the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund help families and injured service people.

“We all live in the local area and the route of the run goes through the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard where a lot of our husbands have worked, so it’s quite apt for us to take part in this event.”
