Mark Maunsell notched a hat-trick and Chris Jackson and Tristan Marshall each scored twice as table topping Winchester gave their Hampshire/Surrey Regional League Division 1 goal boost a healthy boost with a 9-1 mauling of Yateley at Kings’.

The net spree gives Winchester a healthy plus 25 goal difference, on top of the five-point lead they already enjoy over second placed Wanderers, who trimmed Fareham II 3-1.

Rampant Winchester showed no sympathy to their winless Berkshire county border rivals and were six-up at half-time.

Maunsell and Jackson shared the first four goals, scoring twice in quick succession early on before repeating the double dose soon after.

Marshall got into the act with a fifth, which followed a pitch-long move between Kev Boniface and Stuart Swift, who added a sixth from the top of the D before half-time.

Yateley, who suffered a sixth defeat in seven outings, tried their best to get a foothold in the game after the break and Winchester were indebted to one fine diving save from teenager goalkeeper Rory McCallum.

The pressure repelled, Winchester regained the initiative and Kent Langridge scored a seventh, his tenth Regional League strike of the season.

Marshall got his second and Winchester’s eighth after a short corner had been partially stopped, while Maunsell completed his hat-trick – and lifted his personal tally for the autumn into double figures – before Sam Edwards replied with a late consolation goal for Yateley.
