Fareham’s Tony Corkett has won the Open section of the Hampshire Individual Championship for the eighth time, with the first of his seven previous successes being in 1989 and the most recent in 2005.

He finished with five points from six games, a point more than the joint runners-up Rowan Brown (Hove), Gavin Lock (Horsham) and David Pye (Hampshire). The under 175 grading prize in the Open section was shared by 13-year-old Harry Grieve (Farnham) and David Fowler (Hamble) with Grieve taking the trophy on the tie break.

The major section was won by Matthew Wilson (Paignton) with 5.5 points, and he finished 1.5 points ahead of Gareth Jones (Southampton) and Robin Williams (Southampton) with Jones winning the trophy on a tie break. Rob Hewitt (Southampton University) and Keith Osborne (Lewes) shared the under 140 grading prize in this section with 3.5 points.

James Barnett (Salisbury) won the minor section with 5 points, half a point more than the joint runners up Colin Gardiner (Newmarket) and Michael Pope (Salisbury), David Murchie (Southampton) won the under 100 grading prize in this section with 3 points.

A newly introduced ladies prize was won by Gillian Moore (Southampton) with 3.5 points in the major section. After the event deputy mayor of Eastleigh Jane Welsh presented the prizes.
