HAMPSHIRE'S Olympic champion cyclist Dani King is all smiles ahead of tonight’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards programme in Glasgow.

The Hamble girl was only released from hospital in south Wales less than a month ago after suffering five broken ribs and a collapsed lung after coming off her bike.

The 23-year-old was admitted to intensive care after she was injured when a cyclist hit a pothole covered by a puddle on a training ride near Merthyr Tydfil.

King was brought down in the ensuing crash and another rider fell on top of her.

Three-time world champion King won the team pursuit at London 2012 and hopes to defend her title in Rio in 2016.
