Southampton athletes turned on the style during a busy weekend of indoor action.

At the British Universities championships in Sheffield, international heptathlete Karla Drew won the 60m hurdles in a fine 8.38m before coming fourth in the high jump in a season’s best of 1.74metres.

She was joined in the final by Emma Cowell who jumped 1.63m in the preliminaries.

Sixth places were achieved by BUCS debutants Sam Bass-Cooper (Pole Vault) with 4.50m and Niall Holt in the 1500m (4:03.05 min).

Sean Adams won his 400m semi final in an indoor PB 49.32 sec, going on to finish fifth in the final.

Fellow sprinter John Coyle won his 200m heat before setting an indoor PB 22.38 sec for 3rd in his semi final.

At the Lee Valley Open, Under 13 Lucy Jane Matthews set a 60m hurdles personal best of 9.90 sec to go second in the national rankings for 2015.

At the Birmingham open meeting, sprinters Sean Foord and Oli Bromby grabbed three wins between them.

Foord won h is 60m and 200m events with indoor personal bests of 7.21 sec and 23.05 sec respectively.

Training partner Bromby, still only 16, won the senior men’s A race in a personal best of 6.80 sec.

That time places him second in the UK rankings this year and sets up a visit to the National Indoor Championships this coming weekend.
