Trojans are homing in on a fourth place finish in their debut South League Premier Division 2 season – a commendable effort considering the Stoneham side was playing Regional 2 hockey only two seasons ago.

“Two wins from our last three games should get us fourth, which would be very satisfactory indeed,” reflected coach Mike Watts.

They took another positive step towards a top-four finish with a 3-0 win over London Edwardians in which Richard Aves scored twice.

“We’d shipped in 11 goals against Banbury and Henley the two previous weeks, so a win and a clean sheet was good,” Watts added.

Trojans had chances to take the lead before Aves got a break on the halfway line, drove into the D before seeing his initial shot saved but then poking in the rebound.

It remained a pretty tense affair, but soon after half-time Aves got through again and doubled Trojans’ lead from a narrow angle.

Edwardians fought back, were repelled and then conceded a third – the inspirational Callum Crichton picking up a rebound off a Ben Frost short corner to make it 3-0.
