Romsey’s season has reached the point of no return with a high noon win or bust showdown with Southampton University looming on Saturday.

Quite simply, Romsey must win it to stand any chance of avoiding the second from bottom relegation spot in Hampshire/Surrey Regional Division 2.

They go into their penultimate game of the season against the Wessex students two points adrift of Bank of England, who lost 2-1 at the University – a result which has given the University a mathematical chance of survival.

Second half goals by Liam Roper and Ashley Sivarajah turned a 1-0 half-time deficit into a University victory over the Bank, who host City of Portsmouth this weekend.

Romsey, meanwhile, lost 4-0 at HAC – despite the heroics of goalkeeper Loz Scott, who pulled off a string of fine saves.

They were still suffering the frustrations of a drive in the South London traffic before HAC fired the opening salvo and scored within the opening minutes.

Romsey responded with Chris Mason effective on the wing and Ben Mullan and Danny Miles going close.

HAC had their fair share of chances too and put the game beyond Romsey with second and third goals either side of half-time.

Tim Bailey, pictured left, shot wide for Romsey, but it was largely due to Scott that HAC’s guns were silenced until the last minute when they added their fourth goal.
