FIVE junior members of Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club made last-16 exits at the Cuestars Handicap Championship in Swindon.

Nine-year-old Oliver Sykes won all four group matches, compiled a 29 break but went down 2-1 on the final black to home player Conor Flanagan, last season’s Silver Tour play-off champion.

Cuestars director John Hunter said the classy left-hander “played fantastic”.

Connor Benzey, 13, was beaten 2-1 by the eventual tournament winner, Jonny Mutch (Cambridge).

Charlie Pringle, 13, lost 2-0 to English Under-16 Championship finalist Mark Lloyd (Gosport).

Bronze Tour rankings leader Steven Hughes, 13, won his group, which included a 23 break in a 2-1 victory over clubmate Mickey Joyce, and was knocked out 2-1 by Drew Hampshire (Swindon).

And 11-year-old Joyce went out 2-0 to James Budd (Fareham).

The event at Jesters Snooker Hall attracted 35 entries.

RYAN Hughes won his first Open Series tournament at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club at his 28th attempt.

The 13-year-old, who accounted for Stu Barter (Marchwood) 2-0 in the final, didn’t drop a single frame in his four matches.

Dan Sykes has taken over top spot, one point ahead of Connor Benzey.
