AROUND 300 talented tungsten throwers will line up at Southampton’s Novotel for the 16th Daily Echo Hampshire Darts Open tomorrow.

And organisers expect another epic, day-long battle on the oche as six former winners, who are still at the peak of their career, line up with a mixed standard of players from pubs, clubs, super league and county.

Current BDO World champion Scott Mitchell, left, from Bransgore on the edge of the New Forest, will be hoping to take away the £1,000 winner’s cheque, as he did in 2013.

The reigning Hampshire Open champion Paul Hogan, who also lifted the silverware in 2002, will be there along with PDC player Kirk Shepherd, who beat all before him at the Novotel in 2007.

On the oche Winner from 2010 Arron Monk, whose father has claimed the title three times, will also be on the oche along with 2011 champion Johnny Haines and Andy Parsons, who was victorious in 2012.

Joint organiser Frank Branscombe said: “Those players, along with all the other darting talent participating, means it is sure to be an exciting day of great darts.

“It is a great line-up of the top exponents of the sport of darts comprising both BDO and PDC players, coming together to contest the much prized Hampshire Open title.

“And there is a strong contingent of ladies and young players who will all combine to make the 16th Hampshire Open a day to remember.”

Spectators are welcome and games get underway at 11.30am, with the final scheduled for early evening.
