Gibson got Trojans’ noses in front in the fourth minute, but a Mandy Gatherer brace gave the Midlanders the victory.
Next stop for Trojans is unbeaten Swansea City, who mauled visiting Bristol University 7-1.
Former Trojans ace Amy Sheehan notched a hat-trick as Eastern Conference favourites Slough thrashed St Albans 6-1.
Trojans opened their South Women’s League Division 3B programme on a positive note, with Zoe Stride and Georgina Atkins scoring in the 2-1 win over Andover.
But Fareham lost 2-0 at Basingstoke, to a goal in each half by Clare Bausor and Sarah McCormick.
