MAHAMED Mahamed claimed victory in the opening match of the 2015/16 Hampshire Cross Country League at Winchester’s Farley Mount.

The Southampton AC starlet, running in the under-20 category, was first person to finish in exactly 32 minutes.

That saw him pip Portsmouth’s Alex Tueten by just three seconds.

There were a handful of other Southampton AC runners in the top 15, with A Milne finishing third in 33:07 and Jamie Knapp in sixth in 33:16.

Matthew Bennett was 11th in 33:34, Alex Wall-Clarke 12th in 33:40, Ben Brewster 14th in 34:03 and Matthew Revier 15th in 34:26.

Helped by all those finishers, Southampton AC won the men’s top team award from Aldershot, Farnham & District (AFD).

First M40 veteran to finish was Basingstoke’s A Hamilton in 34:52.

Niamh Brown was first to finish in the women’s race – and, like Mahamed, she was also competing as an under-20.

She won in 23:21 to the first of nine AFD finishers in the top 14.

Winchester’s V45 veteran Lucy Elliott was second lady home, six seconds behind the winner, while Southampton’s Ellie Monks was third – just a further second behind Elliott.

Eastleigh’s Hannah Howard was 16th in 25:22, while Georgia Russell of Southampton was one place behind and three seconds adrift.

Unsurprisingly, AFD won the women’s team trophy from Winchester AC and Southampton AC.

AFD’s Jake Cvetkovic was the under-17 men’s winner in 16:26, with Southampton’s Sam Costley eighth in 17:22 and team-mate Luke Powell two places and two seconds adrift.

There was further success for the Mahemed family when Zak Mahamed won the under-15 boys race, pipping Portsmouth’s Lachlan Wellington by just two seconds to win in 14:07.

Southampton’s Toby Hale was eighth in 15:49.

Southampton’s Ben Brown was second in the under-13 boys race in 11:23, six seconds behind AFD’s Ryan Martin.

New Forest Runners’ Hannahh Froud was first in the women’s under-17 race in 19:22, with club colleague Holly Collier fifth in 20.11.

Portsmouth’s Josie Czura dominated in the under-15 girls race, romping home by over a minute from Grace Copeland of Wimborne.

Isabel Richardson (Southampton) was fourth in 17:27.

In the girls under-13 race, Portsmouth’s Saffron Moore won in 12:18, two seconds ahead of Camberley’s Amy Dove.

Elizabeth Adamson was Southampton’s first finisher in sixth place in 12:48.
