SIR Ben Ainslie's Land Rover BAR endured a frustrating day as Bermuda hosted its first ever America's Cup event.

Last year it was confirmed that the mid-Atlantic island would host the 35th edition of sport's oldest international trophy.

Preparations for 2017 stepped up as Bermuda hosted the third leg of the America's Cup World Series, but it was a difficult weekend for Ainslie's British challengers.

Light wind saw racing abandoned on Saturday and led to three shorter rounds yesteday, with Land Rover BAR finishing the regatta fourth out of the six teams.

Ainslie's team finished the first race in third, but endured a tough second round after a technical issue saw them go from the lead to finish last.

They rallied to finish second in the final race and left David Carr wondering what could have been.

"What we have got very good at as a crew is hitting the reset button and that comes from the back of the boat, that's good leadership," Lymington-based Ainslie said.

"We hit the reset button and we go again.

"It was one of those days. We're still third, we still feel we've got the best team and I believe we will win the World Series."

Artemis Racing - led by Great Britain's two-time Olympic gold medallist Iain Percy, who hails from Hampshire - won the Bermuda event, while Emirates Team New Zealand strengthened their grip at the top of the overall standings.
