FORMER Saints coach Sir Clive Woodward is 20/1 to be re-appointed England’s rugby head coach after Stuart Lancaster quit in the wake of a miserable World Cup showing.

Woodward led England to World Cup glory in 2003 before his controversial appointment to the backroom staff at St Mary’s two years later during Rupert Lowe’s chairmanship.

Woodward, who was given the title of technical director at St Mary's, lasted just 12 months at St Mary’s before he left the club in the wake of Lowe's ousting.

Bookies William Hill have joint favourites for his replacement with three coaches offered at 5/1.

The biggest mover in the market to date is Exeter’ Rob Baxter, who is 5/1 from 8/1 - with Jake White and Mike Ford also offered at 5/1. Woodward is 20/1 with Jonny Wilkinson a 40/1 shot “Stuart Lancaster has paid the price for a disastrous World Cup and we believe there will be a fair few putting themselves forward for the job,” said Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
