Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves will be looking to continue their flying start to their Olympic careers when they resume their Nacra 17 medal chase tomorrow.

Following today’s rest day, the pair go back into action locked on equal points (17) at the top of the leaderboard with Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin, (AUS), with the Australians in pole due to the number of race wins they have.

Despite both former Southampton University student Saxton and Groves never having competed at an Olympics before, the pair have so far shown great consistency on the course areas inside Guanabara Bay, where sailors across all the classes have struggled to master the unpredictable, often light, breezes caused by the Rio topography not least from Sugarloaf Mountain.

From their six races so far, the Brits have never finished below seventh.

Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri (ITA), the 2016 Worlds bronze medallists, currently lie in third overall.

Racing is set to resume at 5pm. The Nacra 17 class is scheduled to contest a 13 race series, with three races per day on 10, 11, 13 and 14 August before the final one off medal race on Tuesday 16 August.
