HAMPSHIRE thrill-seeker Gary Hunt celebrated his sixth Red Bull World Cliff Diving title trophy at the season finale under lights in Dubai Marina.

The Southampton-born diver, 32, could only finish runner-up in the last of the nine events comprising the 2016 series - American Andy Jones claiming his first ever victory in front of a 12,000 strong crowd at the sport's inaugural night event.

Hunt finished the series with 1,350 points - more than 300 ahead of runner-up Jonathan Parades of Mexico.

He won just three of the nine events this year, but was second or third on four other occasions.

Hunt has now won the title in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. On the two occasions when he hasn't won, he has finished second.

Hunt entered the Dubai event having already been crowned champion a fortnight earlier.

"I feel great," he said. "It’s a defeat in the end of the day but it’s a full stop on a very long season.

"A season where I can take a lot of positives away from.

"There’s nothing relaxing when you’re up on that platform. It’s a thrill ride every time.

"I felt comfortable - more and more comfortable, especially with the title in bag - but the edge wasn’t there today."

Aussie wildcard Rhiannan Iffland won the women's title in her debut season, claiming her fifth success in seven competitions in Dubai.
