Mark Walker landed a personal best smoothhound at 15lb 6oz while targeting the Park Shore section along the northern Solent shoreline.
Another Southampton angler, Steve Harder, headed to the Purbecks where he caught a very long, lean conger .
Competitors sampled mixed fortunes during the monthly Samalite League match fished along the Abbotsbury section of Chesil Beach.
They recorded a number of conger, pout, dogfish, sole, scad, smoothhound, black bream, garfish and poor cod.  
The heaviest fish in A zone was a 6lb 13oz smoothhound bagged by Stuart Jones.
Mike Brown, from Southampton, recorded the heaviest fish in B zone with a 2lb 6oz smoothhound.   
Results: A zone, 1st Dave Lane 9lb 9oz, 2nd Stuart Jones 8lb 6.5oz, 3rd Chris Read 4lb 10.5oz.   B zone, 1st Rob Marshall 6lb 2.5oz, 2nd Mike Brown 5lb 0.5oz, 3rd Steve Salisbury 3lb 15.5oz.  

The Pyramids section at Southsea was the setting for a Rovers Tackle midweek catch & release competition which produced a smattering of bass, sole, scad, red mullet, tub gurnard and whiting. 
  There was a tie in the total length section with both Ian Golds and Dave Jones finishing with 106cm. 
The longest single fish section was won by Dave Jones, with a 34cm tub gurnard, followed by Paddy Duncan with a 29cm bass.

The popular Wessex senior flounder league gets underway on October 4 with the first match in the midweek series held at Hamworthy and Rockley. 
The event will be restricted to 75 competitors and is always oversubscribed so early registration is advisable.

AROUND THE CLUBS

SHIRLEY SAC.    A blonde ray caught by Darren Taylor which weighed just a fraction under 20lb was the highlight during a large boat competition fished out from Selsey, other species to figure included pout, dogfish, scad wrasse and bass.   
Results: 1st John Bell 59pts, 2nd Paul Bryson 45pts, 3rd Pasquale Mucci 36pts, 4th Darren Taylor 30pts.   

LYMINGTON & DISTRICT SFC.   Smoothhound, silver eels, black bream and dogfish supplied the action during the monthly Shingle Bank League fixture held at Milford.   
Results: 1st Chris Ellis 5lb 4.25oz, 2nd Malcolm Stote 2lb 10.25oz, 3rd Danny Panks 1lb 8.75oz, 4th John Sloper 1lb 0.25oz. 

GOSPORT & DISTRICT AC.   A junior catch & release shore competition held at Pebbles produced a good variety of species including smoothhound, silver eels, bass, sole, plaice, whiting and Tub Gurnards. 
Results: 1st Samuel James 414cm, 2nd Harry Gille 369cm, 3rd Ben Eggleton 276cm, 4th Ben Wright 131cm.

CHRISTCHURCH & DISTRICT FC: Some cracking fish were recorded during a shore competition held at Hengistbury Head where Robin Thorne beached a 10lb 1oz undulate ray and a 2lb dogfish while Tony Amos recorded a nice ballan wrasse at 1lb 14oz. 
Results: 1st Robin Thorne 13lb 3oz, 2nd Tony Amos 4lb 9oz, 3rd Keith Mills 3lb 3oz.

SANDOWN & LAKE AC: Mackerel and scad supplied most of the action during the weekend match held on the local pier where Ryan Bravery topped the podium with 3lb 7oz.  
Others: 2nd Mike Wyatt 3lb 3.5oz, 3rd Ollie Grimaldi 3lb 2oz, 4th Peter Kingswell 2lb 5.5oz.   Top junior, Harleigh Abbot 1lb 1.5oz
