Some great bass continue to figure from both boat and shore locations.

Matt Nutt landed one of the better fish, at 9lb 5oz, while fishing from the Lymington-based ‘Last Laugh’ skippered by John Skeggs.

Nutt used a floated fish scad presented on a 5/0 hook to tempt the specimen.

Martin Smith, a marine engineer from Hamble, sampled a touch of winter when he went afloat from his own boat ‘Hunter’ while fishing just off Stokes Bay.

There he caught a nice brace of codling which is a sure sign that the cold weather is only just around the corner.

He also bagged himself a number of conger, pout and dogfish during the same trip.

Locals figured prominently when the Angling Trust staged a qualifying heat for the World Pairs Championship at Southsea.

The top three pairs represent England during the World event fished in Spain during 2018. Callum Graham and Charlie Tudball, both members of the Lymington club, clinched their place after coming second.

Toby Oldfield and Tom Bagnall, both from Christchurch, were third. Ian Bowell and Mark Pinder won the event.

Curtis Driver, 11, from Poole, won the latest round of the Angling Trust Wessex Region Marine junior fish of the month award with a 13lb 4oz boat caught undulate ray.

Oliver Warren, 13, from Lymington, was both second and third with a 6lb 6oz smoothhound and a 1lb 7.5oz fish.

Flounders were once again conspicuous by their absence during the second round of the Wessex Junior Flounder League fished along the Hamworthy section.

Only small bass were recorded which were just awarded one point per fish.
