HAMPSHIRE long distance runner Andy Vernon has been chosen for his third Commonwealth Games.
The 31-year-old, from Fareham, will compete in the 10,000m for England at the Gold Coast games in Queensland, Australia, next April.
Vernon, who started his athletics career with Stubbington Green, now competes for north Hampshire club Aldershot Farnham & District.
His first Commonwealths were in Delhi in 2010, where he finished 10th in the 10,000m.
He dropped down to the 5,000m for the 2014 Commonwealths in Glasgow, where he finished sixth.
It was at the 10,000m distance that Vernon enjoyed one of the best moments of his career - taking silver in the European Championships in Zurich in 2014.
Vernon also competed in the 10,000m at his first Olympics in Rio last year. There he finished 25th in a 34-strong field.
He is one of 75 men and women named in England’s athletics squad for next April’s tournament Down Under.
The squad has 18 Commonwealth medals and 46 Games appearances between them.
