HAMPSHIRE star Josh Goodall has spoken of the financial struggle he faces trying to make an impression in world tennis.
The 26-year-old British number four suffered a 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 loss to Grega Zemlja on the opening day of Wimbledon on Monday.
Questions have been asked of the validity of giving British players such as Goodall a wild card to the tournament.
This year’s was his fourth and the loss was his fourth first-round departure.
It is an issue he acknowledges and, in his mid-twenties and with a ranking of 215th, the Basingstoke man knows that he has to quickly find a way to start winning matches that matter.
And, when asked if he had considered seeking additional coaching, he admitted that competing on the tour is already a financial struggle, without incurring extra costs.
